Cmdr. Calvin Loper
Cmdr. Calvin Loper is a native of Poplarville, Mississippi. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1986 and reported to Recruit Training Command, Orlando Florida.
After completion of recruit training, he attended Radioman ‘A’ School, graduating with honors, resulting in accelerated advancement to petty officer third class. Further enlisted assignments include serving aboard USS Buchanan (DDG 14), Naval Communications Area Master Station WESTPAC, Guam, Naval Communications Detachment, Cheltenham, Maryland, and USS Conolly (DD 979). He was selected for chief petty officer in 1997 while serving aboard USS Conolly.
He was then assigned to USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) and at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., where he was commissioned as an ensign in November 1999 under the Limited Duty Officer Program. Upon completion of officer indoctrination in Pensacola, Florida, his follow-on assignments include NCTS Sigonella, Sicily, TSCOMM officer-in-charge, USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41); electronics material officer, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia; chief, software development branch, Commander Riverine Group (CRG) 1, Virginia Beach, Virginia; director, force communications/N6, COMSEC Material Issuing Office (CMIO), Norfolk, Virginia; officer-in-charge, Naval Special Warfare Group (NSWG) 3, Virginia Beach, Virginia; director, communications systems/N6, and U.S. Special Operations Command, Tampa, Florida, J6 directorate branch chief and executive officer to the J6/Chief Information Officer. He re-designated to an information professional officer (1820) in 2017.
Cmdr. Loper holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems from Strayer University and a Master of Science in Information Technology Management with a concentration in Information Security / Assurance and Digital Forensics from Trident University International.
Cmdr. Loper’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7 awards).
