Capt. Kevin J. McHale, Jr. 


NIOC Hawaii Commanding OfficerCapt. Kevin McHale is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Upon graduation he reported to the Navy-Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center (NMITC) in Dam Neck, Virginia, where he graduated from the Naval Intelligence Officer Basic Course.

His first assignment was as the collections officer, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7, embarked aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) for an initial around-the-world deployment. In early 1999, he reported to CINCPAC where he served as the J2 representative in the Joint Reconnaissance Center. Following CINCPAC, McHale went to the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Masters in Intelligence Information Management. McHale then returned to the NMITC as an instructor and the Naval Intelligence C School department kead.


He then reported to CVW-1, embarked aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65), for two combat deployments in summers of 2006 and 2007. He then attended the Joint Forces Staff College enroute an assignment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba serving as the intelligence board member reviewing the status of detainees. Upon completion of his individual augmentation, he was assigned to the PACOM JIOC as the China plans officer. He then went back to sea duty from 2012 to 2015 as serving as the N2 for CSFTL/Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 4. McHale then returned to Hawaii and served on the PACFLT staff as the MIOC director and as the first fleet problem director. Capt. McHale was then selected to serve as the U.S. 7th Fleet N2 embarked aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) in Yokosuka, Japan.

Capt. McHale currently serves as the commanding officer, NIOC Hawaii/CTF 1070 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

He has been awarded the Defense Super Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and other personal, service, unit, and campaign awards.
