Cmdr. Brian A. Evans
Cmdr. Brian A. Evans received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2003. Following graduation, he completed nuclear training in Charleston, South Carolina, and submarine officer training in Groton, Connecticut, before reporting to USS Honolulu (SSN 718) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. While aboard, he qualified as a submarine warfare officer and was certified as a Navy Reactors nuclear engineering officer.
Following his tour aboard USS Honolulu, Cmdr. Evans reported to the Submarine Learning Facility in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as the engineer officer and as a prospective nuclear engineering officer instructor. Following his assignment in Norfolk, Cmdr. Evans laterally transferred to the information warfare community as an information professional (IP). His first IP assignment was at OPNAV information warfare directorate (N2/N6) as the narrowband satellite communications requirements officer. While at OPNAV, he was selected to participate in a Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) pilot graduate education program at Carnegie Mellon University.
After earning his degree from Carnegie Mellon, he reported to Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12 as the flag communications and space operations officer. Following this tour, Cmdr. Evans served as the deputy executive assistant to the deputy CNO for information warfare (OPNAV N2/N6). Upon completion of his deputy executive assistant assignment, Cmdr. Evans reported for joint duty at U.S. Cyber Command, serving as the global defensive cyberspace operations branch chief in the future operations division (J35) and as the Navy element executive officer.
Following his joint tour, Cmdr. Evans served as the deputy director C4/Cyber (NGA) on the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet staff prior to reporting as commanding officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Sicily and commander, Task Unit 1010.6.1.
Cmdr. Evans holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Information Technology Strategy from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Master of Arts from the Naval War College. He is also a graduate of the Joint and Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College.
Cmdr. Evans is a designated joint qualified officer, a member of Navy’s Space Cadre community, holds a Level I Program Management Defense Acquisition Workforce Certification, and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
