RAP provides support, information, preparation and education for managing the demands of the mobile military lifestyle. Essential components include briefings; sponsorship support; counseling before, during, and after moving; settling-in services; and emergency services. The Relocation Resource Library contains a myriad of printed materials on military moves in addition to several videos.
A major goal of the Relocation Assistance Program (RAP) is to educate service members and their families to take charge of their move, manage its challenges, and maximize the opportunities the military lifestyle has to offer. Prior planning is the key to staying in control of relocation and coping with the financial, emotional, and logistical demands it makes on service members and their families.
Basic Services
Relocation Counseling (group and individual) provides pre- and post-move needs assessment, guidance, and relocation planning to ensure a well coordinated move. This counseling can involve something as minor as finding a vet in a new area, or as major as assisting a service member when the PCS move is the result of a family member being diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Settling-in assistance is offered, and provides home finding services, community orientation, access to the temporary loan of household goods, and other services which are key to adjustment in the new community. For groups, various workshops, classes, and GMTs are offered.
Relocation Resource Library includes reference materials such as videos for overseas locations, books on parenting in the military, Intercultural relations information, countless flyers and brochures on financial preparedness connected with a PCS move, and tips on moving with pets and children, and many other comprehensive resources that provide the transferee with the tools needed to make their move a positive experience.
Emergency Services is an essential RAP component that may include access to interest free loans from Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, supplemental food assistance, emergency child care, counseling or other direct assistance when resources and coping skills are stretched.
Community Coordination to ensure comprehensive and cohesive services are delivered by all agencies providing relocation related services.
